Chekhov With A Hammer

Trebalo bi da iza vrata svakog zadovoljnog, srećnog čoveka stoji neko s malenim čekićem.

Ratio
01:44
|
|||
Let's cut this up into
a fitting ratio: I'm
half as good as I
want to be.
You're at least twice that
and a multitude
if you cut this up
between you and me.
And if you cut this up
into a fitting ratio I'm
halfway to something,
halfway to not quite there
And where did you or I
sleep last night?
Location is pretty much
everything everywhere.
As if one dilemma wasn't
bad enough, let's
cut this up and
then subdivide
Into a fitted ratio
to yield a fitting sum
no amount of math
could ever hide.
No one would say
of me “he was good
with his hands, at math
or really understood
what a pair of scissors
was any good for”,
no one would say
I was any good
at mathematics or
could make any sense
of yes or no
or 2 and 2.
You either have it or you don’t:
A sense of ratio,
a way with proportion
or away with you.

Darker
02:28
|
|||
You think you’re smart, well so do I
Smarter than the truth and quicker than a lie
And it’s lighter at the end of the tunnel that you’re at
but wait - it gets darker than that.
You think life’s good, well maybe so
You think you heard a whisper that everyone should know
What everybody wants and everybody will
but wait - it gets darker still.
The rest of us are slaves according to you
Everyone’s accountable for what they do
Everybody’s lacking and everybody’s less
but wait - it gets darker than this.
I meant the best is yet to come
I meant you’re deaf so what so what if I am dumb
And please be worth the every worthless word you spend
because it always gets darker at the end.

Preface
00:54
|
|||
Not static—Not—If
I am concerned—
Observe the placement
Of things here—
All things Heaped upon the plate
Of history—Cartography—
Of how culture sanctions
Propinquity
Like a map disclosing the unannounced
Quizzes—Eight-four-
Two—Of history’s shocks—
Of the tabula recit—
Of ships and relations—
Of which we’re tinctured—
By which order’s puzzled—Churned
As it is into said history—Of
Things being the same—Pronounced
The same—Of history—Picture
This—the golden parchment
Of reciprocity—Where
It’s and we’re embedded—
Together—of late—
Our link—Pops

Bigger From The Outside
02:14
|
|||
it seemed better from the inside
it felt deeper in my diary
it sounded nicer in my head
sweeter in bed
better from the inside
it looked bigger from the outside
it seemed brighter in the magazine
it sounded nicer in my head
lighter in bed
bigger from the outside

follow your leader
everybody’s got one
race you to the top or bottom
and follow your leader, follow your leader
follow your leader
everybody needs one
to the edge and end of reason
follow your leader, follow your leader
so follow your leader
to the edge and for the distance
keep the beat and count the meter
and follow your leader

Forget me, father
There’s no use in confessing

My Life As An Object
01:27
|
|||
It’s fine to take these words out of context.
The context always next to bad at very best.
Taken out of context I won’t object.
It’s good to have these words fully liberated….
These words that mean something like data
where the signal stands in for a prayer
and the ratio to noise oh the ratio to noise is obliterated…
Does anybody have an objection?
If yes it’s good to know the fucking context
If yes add the words to the collection
We like it orderly, so be it ordered….
My life as an object.
My life as an object.
My life as an object.

If I gotta keep pulling these pants up around the waist
They’d better at least give me a proper belt
